I MADE A FRIEND RIDING THE SUBWAY HOME TONIGHT

  1. I was reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell with my headphones on.
  2. Someone sat down next to me and tapped me on the shoulder. She said "I'm sorry to bother you but that book is so amazing."
  3. I said "I know, I just finished Eleanor and Park, too." "Did you read Attachments?" she asked. "I haven't, have you read Landline?" I answered.
  4. We talked about Rainbow Rowell for ten minutes including the ending of Eleanor and Park and what the three words could have been.
  5. It turns out we're both from Queens and went to high school right by each other.
  6. We talked about YA as a genre that is fun to read and why Cormac McCarthy is so bleak.
  7. We happened to be getting off at the same stop.
  8. And walking the same direction.
  9. She told me about her job making candy and gave me caramels that she had cooked. They were delicious.
  10. We walked eight blocks together and I told her the books I work on and how cool RL Stine is in real life.
  11. She told me two awesome meeting David Sedaris stories.
  12. Now we're friends on Twitter.
  13. Summertime New York, yo.
