10 THINGS I'VE LEARNED ON LIST

I take forever on LRs, always have to see what good stuff you all write about first 😎 (plus hard to find time to write this without the benefit of saving a draft, ahem)
  1. 1.
Hot takes are best reserved for pop culture, not politics
In these days where truth is fiction & day is night, any political opinion better be backed up by proven facts. Otherwise, best to just withhold an opinion about an issue until you've committed some time to learning about it. Better to say "I need to read up more on that" than to exclaim loudly about an issue based off just skimming some headlines. But by all means, proclaim your firm & wholly subjective stances on Dorito flavors or Marvel movies loud & proud πŸ“°πŸ—ž
  2. 2.
You can rail & complain all you want (with valid concerns about everything from format changes to bullying), but Li.st HQ doesn't really care
Or feel the need to respond πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ (with that said, I am always grateful to have found this platform & all of you)
  3. 3.
Generalizations about generations makes you look stupid
I already thought this (HR "studies" & hiring trends based on generation gaps always posses me off in my old job), but all my Li.st interactions just proved it. We've all made great relationships here with people of all ages & backgrounds. One age group is not lazier, more entitled, harder-working, more ethical, or going through a tougher time than any other. It's all hard, & we're all trying our best (plus, we all like so much of the same pop culture!) πŸ‘΄πŸ½πŸ‘±πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ’›
  4. 4.
When to just shut up & listen
This ties into #1. I have learned so much from other people's experiences here. Reading about so many struggles with prejudice, grief, mental health issues, etc...so many lists have shared experiences that I have not or will not ever have. In lots of cases, it's not my place to respond. Just to show that little ❀️ of support & to learn from what I've read πŸ‘‚πŸΌπŸ‘‚πŸΌ

    So many good travel tips
Bless every single lister who has shared their fave locations/lodging/food/sites that I have πŸ’Ύed. Special shout out to our incredible listers who reside outside the US who share their bit of the world with us silly Americans who fail sometimes to see the world outside our bubble
  6. 6.
    Ditto amazing book/movie/music/TV show recommendations
I love everyone who has ever mentioned Crazy Ex-Girlfriend πŸ‘°πŸ»
  7. 7.
That people are interested as well as being interesting
The concept of li.st could have led to a platform where users just shouted into the wind. But the community here became super engaged & it's so incredible to see how we all just want to know more about one another. I love learning from y'all. And I'm still a little astounded that anyone ever wants to hear my HR or parenting or Shakespeare advice/stories. I guess there really is an audience for everything! 🎀
  8. 8.
That some people never get over high school
I have witnessed bullying here, actual targeted cruelty that goes beyond being upset over differing opinions. It felt different than any Twitter wars because in some cases users actually knew each other or were at least online friends beforehand. Some people are jealous of others, some are triggered by behavior and take it out on someone in highly inappropriate ways. Even if reasons for being upset with a person are valid, harassment is unacceptable, and it did change my view of a few users πŸ‘ΆπŸ»
  9. 9.
    You are all so talented
I mean, really!! Lots of people here have shared art/writing/music/jokes/projects here that I know you wouldn't with people in your "real life". But damn, I'm proud to know y'all. Everyone has something amazing to share, & you are giving of yourselves πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨πŸΏβ€πŸ³πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸŽ€πŸ‘¨πŸΌβ€πŸ’»πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸŒΎπŸ‘¨πŸΎβ€βš–οΈ

And for that, I thank you βœοΈπŸ“•
