Nashville Tips From a Nashville Native

  1. The locals don't wear cowboy hats.
  2. We don't usually wear cowboy boots, either.
I've lived here my whole life and don't even own a pair of cowboy boots.
  3. Some of the best music is free.
Check out Live on the Green in the late summer, or Musicians' Corner in spring/fall. The sets on July 4th and New Year's Eve are pretty great, too. Even the street performers on Broadway are solid acts.
  4. The Parthenon is a must-see.
Nashville is known as "the Athens of the South" because we have several colleges within city limits. So, we have a to-scale replica of the Parthenon. Because why not? Ours is even better than the original, too, because ours is not falling down. :)
  5. The Ryman really is the best.
Take a tour, see a show. You won't regret it.
  6. A lot of the best places to eat aren't in the heart of downtown.
Check out Germantown, East Nashville, 12 South, and the Gulch for some of our favorite restaurants.
  7. We have a thriving coffee shop scene.
    Check out coffeeshoppers.net for reviews.
  8. Avoid the interstates during rush hours.
  9. If you choose to ride a pedal tavern, go on a scooter tour, or have your bachelorette party here, that's fine. Just know we'd rather you not do that.
  10. Play it cool around celebrities.
Most of us do not rub elbows with Brad Paisley on the regular, but if we do see Kelly Clarkson in the produce aisle, we try not to make a scene. This is part of the reason celebs love Nashville. Please don't ruin it for them (us).
  11. We love our city something fierce.
