1. The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan
This is the first piece of literature I've read that fully expressed thoughts I had and never felt I could convey on paper. I especially connected with the essay "Cold Pastoral". Like to the point I was crying on the PATH train and didn't even care.
  2. NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour podcast
Went through back episodes while my PCHH friends were on vacation. Enjoyed ones on Hamilton, Spy, UnReal and the Golden State Warriors
  3. Tales from the Back Row by Amy Odell
I was clambering to read this when it first came out but just got around to it. Found it very slow and oddly boring for someone who does interesting things.
  4. OITNB
Just finished season 4 and crying
  5. Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion
    Giphy downsized medium
I have really conflicting feelings about Joan Didion and her work. I read some of the essays in this book as part of a class and loved them, but I've never been to Nevada/the California part near Nevada that heavily influences her work, so I feel a disconnect. Her writing is flawless though, and I find myself nodding my head to her work. (1/2)
  6. Slouching Towards Bethlehem (cont'd)
The New York Times recently described the personal essay versus the confessional essay as having patron saints: Joan Didion and Nora Ephron, respectively. I can relate to Nora's New York personality and feeling bad about her neck and so forth, but do I know what it feels like when a Santa Ana wind blows in? Only Joan can tell me.
  7. Slouching Towards Bethlehem (cont'd)
The last essay I read was On Keeping a Notebook, which spoke to me tremendously. Then I left it somewhere on mass transit.
  8. The Night Of (HBO)
I have so many theories and am already elbow deep in Reddit threads. This was what I wanted True Detective to be. This is also the kind of pace I thought The Wire needed.
  9. I Feel Bad About My Neck by Nora Ephron
"Sometimes I think that not having to worry about your hair anymore is the secret upside to death."
  10. Gilmore Girls
    Just finished season 5
