Stuff You Should Consume This Month

Or next month, since we're wrapping it up on the October front.
  1. Moonlight
All the buzz about this is true. Beautiful and purely cinematic. Love how it does everything, even its most shocking moments, so quietly. Race, gender, masculinity: it addresses all of these, sometimes all in one scene. Also captures the parts of Miami that billboards, music videos, and magazine ads leave out, a part of the culture they would deny responsibility for.
  2. The Handmaiden
Park-Chan Wook is for you 100% or not at all. Personally, I think he's a genius and his story is almost the opposite of Moonlight. While it's elegant and beautiful, it's queer aspect is far more over the top, but that's a compliment, since it seems to be a response to repression. Probably my fav movie of the year so far!
  3. Christine
If you don't know the story of Christine Chubbuck, you should look it up. Even knowing a lot about her, the movie still packs a punch. Rebecca Hall plays the eponymous character, but the supporting cast is just as good in a story that almost feels like what a real life Barry Egan from Punch-Drunk Love might actually be like. You can't save people from themselves and the coda is perfect.
  4. This meme someone that I'm in?
So I guess I've made it?
