HOW TO WIN AN ARGUMENT

While also doing something awesome
  1. β€’
Today, someone said something super, super awful about women who terminate their pregnancies.
Like, I deal with fucked up stuff daily. I don't get shocked very often. But this was pretty fucked up.
  2. β€’
    Someone on this app.
  3. β€’
    And I became a dragon!
  4. β€’
I flew around my town fucking shit up and spewing fire onto everything.
    Metaphorically? You'll never know!
  5. β€’
I drafted a list titled "TITLES OF LISTS I WANT TO MAKE RIGHT NOW"
    This was one "πŸ–•πŸΌπŸ–•πŸΌπŸ–•πŸΌπŸ–•πŸΌπŸ–•πŸΌπŸ–•πŸΌπŸ–•πŸΌ"
  6. β€’
Then I stopped and thought about what I could do instead of writing a list about how fucking mad this person made me.
  7. β€’
I thought about what would make a real, tangible difference in the lives of women who need support.
  8. β€’
Women who this lister called poor (like, low socio economic status) idiots who use abortion as population control.
  9. β€’
So instead of destroying this person's clearly awful opinion via social media, I'm going to turn it into a win for women...
  10. β€’
    I donated to Planned Parenthood
Because it has been there for me and provides incredible services to women. Life saving services!
  11. β€’
  12. β€’
And if you can, I think you should too.
Or to another women's health center that provides abortion and other imperative services.
  13. β€’
If you can't donate, that's okay! Your verbal support will move mountains.
  14. β€’
Because words are important, and this app has some wonderful people on it who share vulnerable and creative things.
Seems like that's shifting, but that's another list for another day.
  15. β€’
But action is often needed in order to counteract shitty behavior.
  16. β€’
We live in a culture that is quick to give people a pass for their shitty behavior.
A half assed apology isn't really an apology.
  17. β€’
I don't want to be complicit in that.
  18. β€’
I'm not in my real life, and I don't want to be on social media. Especially on an app that has, for the most part, been a great creative outlet.
  19. β€’
In closing, great job other lister!
  20. β€’
Your shitty opinion just helped a ton of women.
  21. β€’
It made at least one person donate to a cause that you hate.
  22. β€’
And that's how you win an argument.
  23. β€’
Abortion is legal. Quick access to a safe abortion should not be an issue.
  24. β€’
    P.S.
I've been working on an abortion list for quite some time. I have absolutely zero patience for anti-choice rhetoric and will do shit like this when you confront me about it.
