If you want to dip into commercial music's 2016, have a listen to some of these songs from pop/hip hop's biggest names.
  1. Zayn - BeFoUr; It's YoU (S/O to Like I Would)
The video to BeFoUr is very UK/Ireland slice of life. The realism lends itself to the song's message about authenticity. A low-key jam to pound the pavement to. 'It's You' feels a little eastern, which is something I like about Zayn's sound. And the high notes are on point.
  2. Frank Ocean's Blonde - Pink + White
Smooth melody & textured lyrics - love it. And Beyoncé is a backup singer in this one.
  3. Rihanna's AnTi - Needed Me; Love on the Brain
The former sounds cool and dangerous & the latter, an infectious Doo Wop earworm, couldn't be more different.
  4. Beyoncé's Lemonade - All Night (S/O to Hold Up, Sorry & the verse from Pray You Catch Me)
All Night is up there for best of the year, IMHO.
  5. Kanye West's TLOPablo - Ultralight Beam; Famous
Bizarre SNL performance aside, Ultralight Beam will take you to church where Chance the Rapper is the revelation. As for Famous, soz T Swift, I can't resist the Bam Bam Dilla song.
  6. Will have a listen to Drake's Views from the 6 (One Dance is alright) & Britney's Glory at some point. Any recs from Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper or any other stand out albums?
