WHAT I DID FOR NEW YEARS EVE

  1. Ate a ton of seafood with my boyfriend's family.
It was a feast! Lobster, mussels, shrimp, escargot on cheesy mushrooms baked, calamari.
  2. This is in their fancypants chalet house (their OTHER house) in the mountains, near hot springs.
But there's a hot tub in the backyard, so only plebs go to the hot springs.
  3. Anyways, I come from poor-middle class family, and always feel somewhat self conscious here.
  4. ANYWAYS. We ate seafood, it was my first time having lobster, and when his dad asked his brother if it was good he one-shoulder-shrugged, face passive.
And the poor kid inside me wanted to shake him for being so privileged.
  5. Also, basically no one talked during dinner.
This confuses me, coming from a family who has lively and interesting conversations. We're here, on New Year's Eve, having a rich feast, and everyone is silent...
  6. After my boyfriend and I cleaned everything up (because his parents and aunt and uncle had cooked), and his brother didn't help at all, we played canasta.
  7. Which I actually like a lot! I've never played much cards, but have played a bunch this vacation with them, and am actually not bad! I think I might be developing a small addiction actually, and will have no way to feed it after this holiday.
  8. Then, around 11 pm, I started to have the early sensation of a sore throat, and runny nose.
  9. I thought it might be due to cigarette smoke, because even though I grew up with two smokers, it's been a long time since I was around this much.
  10. But nope. It got steadily worse, and by midnight it was clear that I had the beginnings of a cold.
  11. Went to bed, slept fitfully, plugged up, waking to blow an ungodly amount of snot out of my head, and then woke up this morning to feeling like my head was going to explode.
  12. Happy New Year to me.
  13. All in all though, it was actually a really nice holiday. I got to read lots of books, spend time in a gorgeous house, and hopefully get to know his family better, and hopefully endear them to me. Plus, I still have a week before school starts again, so my cold should have made its way through my system by then!
  14. Now I'm watching Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, and discovering (stalking) new people on List App. It's pretty sweet.
  15. Other than this:
  16. Whenever I get a cold, I'm like "well, this is my life now" and get really disparaging.
  17. Also, I just read @ljsee list about how to be married for 25 years, and feel badly about posting this, because I should just be nicer, since I want these people to be my in laws someday, and they are really, really lovely people.
  18. But whatever, I have a cold, and so I have no reservations!
Ha. See what I did there? Ok bye.
