1. Definitely, Maybe
How I Met Your Mother: the movie. I watched this while I was drunk and I did not enjoy it very much. On paper, it seems like a slam dunk. It has all the makings of a typical rom-com, likable actors, a proven concept, etc. but it's bogged down by a thin, boring plot. Also, while I like Ryan Reynolds, I didn't particularly like his character which made it hard for me to root for him. Idk it wasn't for me.
  2. The World's End
I adore Edgar Wright (especially when he teams up with Pegg and Frost) but mediocre reviews had me avoiding this movie for a while. I get the criticism but I didn't hate this movie. It's not as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz but it's entertaining. The first hour is delightful but the ending is awful so it falls somewhere in the middle for me. I will say that the fight scenes in this movie are the reason why an Edgar Wright Ant-Man would have been amazing (I'm still so bitter about that).
  3. Sicario
After being completely floored by Arrival in 2016, I finally decided to watch this movie. This is obviously a very different film - it's a violent thriller - but it's also incredibly well done. I was riveted all the way through. The cast is phenomenal (especially Emily Blunt) but I am beyond impressed with Denis Villeneuve. He builds the tension so well in this film. I didn't even realize I was holding my breath until the credits started rolling and I exhaled.
