ROGUE ONE: PROS & CONS (SPOILER-FREE)

  1. Pro: It's GORGEOUS
    The cinematography is outstanding.
  2. Con: A little too much CGI
Not prequel levels of CGI but certainly more than TFA. The CGI wasn't bad but it made the movie feel a little less Star Wars-y.
  3. Pro: A beautifully diverse cast
You have Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Wen Jiang, Forest Whitaker, and Donnie Yen. Everyone is good but let me tell you, I was so excited to see Donnie Yen in a Star Wars movie and he did not disappoint.
  4. Con: I didn't care about the characters as much as the movie wanted me to
I liked all the characters but I didn't absolutely love any of them. I totally fell for Rey, Finn, BB-8, and Poe in TFA but I just didn't feel the same way about anybody in Rogue One.
  5. Pro: Lots of action
    It was fun.
  6. Con: Some of the action scenes are cut to death
I've noticed this a lot recently with the MCU movies so I'm not super surprised to see it popping up in Star Wars. The action sequences jump around a lot so things seem more fast paced but it can be hard to follow at times. There were a few moments where there was a lot going on but I didn't know exactly what was happening.
  7. Con: It's kind of brutal
I was genuinely surprised by how violent some of the scenes were. Not very Star Wars-y.
  8. Pro: It's kind of brutal
However, there's one scene in particular that's SO good omg I want to watch it a million times.
  9. Con: No John Williams
Michael Giacchino did his best to emulate John Williams. It was familiar but it was just a little off. Some of that was intentional but it just felt...weird.
  10. Pro: It gives us a different perspective
We get to take a little break from Keeping Up With the Skywalkers and focus on the rebels for once.
  11. Con: No cheesy wipes between scenes
Probably a pro for some people but I love them lmao.
  12. Pro: It didn't feel like a cash grab
The entire reboot of this franchise is, at its core, a cash grab but Rogue One felt like a genuine attempt to add more depth to an already beloved world.
  13. Pro: This movie could not have come out at a better time
We really needed a good story of the importance of hope and rebellion going into 2017.
  14. Con: It didn't give me all the feels
But that's okay. I can't be an emotional mess every time I go to the movies. It's just not healthy lol.
  15. Pro: I liked it more than I thought I would
It was unnecessary but it was really enjoyable. Idk about the Han Solo and Boba Fett movies though.
