THE TEN SONGS THAT MEAN THE MOST TO ME

  1. "How Sweet" -Leona Naess
Subtle, sweet, and aching, this song has had my heart my whole life. I first listened to it when I was four years old, and it has seen me through my childhood and into college.
  2. "Let it Be Me" -Ray LaMontagne
This was the song that started my love affair with my man Ray. This song is a beautiful declaration of true, unconditional friendship. The first few notes of this song put my mind and heart at ease immediately.
  3. "1972" -Josh Rouse
    I. Love. This. Song. It plays like a dream, telling stories of people who will never meet and would never be seen as special by anybody else but Josh Rouse. Every time I listen to this song I feel like I'm flying over my hometown on a beautiful spring night.
  4. "By Your Side" -Sade
My dad is a huge Sade fan, and I grew up on her music. This song has always been my favorite of hers, and I've been listening to it for as long as I can remember. This song is a straight out jam, perfect for a summer day (but I listen to it all four seasons, let's be real).
  5. "Secret Garden" -Bruce Springsteen
Listening to this song is the emotional equivalent of me flying to New Jersey, knocking on Bruce's door, and asking him to punch me in the face. This song breaks my heart every time I listen to it, but it is so, so beautiful.
  6. "Come Away With Me" -Norah Jones
There is like a month every single year where the only singer I will listen to is Norah Jones. I love this song, it is produced perfectly. It never tries to be more or less than what it is.
  7. "Holocene" -Bon Iver
In my sophomore year of high school, I was in a really dark place. I listened to this song over and over again because it was the only thing in my life at that time that felt truly beautiful. Listening to it now is bittersweet, because I still think the song is beautiful but it also takes me back to a not so great time in my life
  8. "If I Ain't Got You" -Alicia Keys
This was the first song that I LOVED to sing. I've been jamming to this song since I was five years old and I will continue jamming to this song for the rest of my life.
  9. "Nobody" -Five for Fighting
"Now I know, as we go round and round, though endings are never, ever happy, it's the happy moments along the way that in the end make it okay." Just writing those lyrics make me want to cry. This song is so pure and beautiful.
  10. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" -Tears for Fears
Tears for Fears is my favorite band, and this is also one of my cousin's and my *songs*. It's timeless and made me fall in love with the band I hold so close to my heart.
