MY 2015 OSCAR BALLOT

I've seen over 200 new releases this year so I don't have many blind spots, but a few notable ones are Son of Saul, Arabian Nights, Macbeth, In Jackson Heights, Goodnight Mommy, Sand Dollars, Beloved Sisters, The Night Before, and Horse Money.
  1. BEST ACTRESS
  2. Cate Blanchett (Carol)
bonus points (not that she needs them): Truth, Cinderella
  3. Laia Costa (Victoria)
  4. Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey)
Fuck the Razzies. I don't think the Fifty Shades script is bad but for me, Dakota had the biggest leap in quality between the words on the page and the performance she got out of them. Rewatch this movie and study how hard she's working to make this character so real, smart, and funny, without acting like she's any better than the movie she's in
  5. Rinko Kikuchi (Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter)
  6. Rooney Mara (Carol)
  7. Runners-up: Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), Blythe Danner (I'll See You in My Dreams), Emily Blunt (Sicario), Elizabeth Banks (Love & Mercy), Sarah Snook (Predestination)
  8. BEST ACTOR
  9. Tom Courtenay (45 Years)
Why is he getting the Jean-Louis Trintignant/Gordon Pinsent treatment this awards season? STUNNING
  10. Paul Dano (Love & Mercy)
brought me to an L.I.E. place of endearing me to a character whose well-being has me very, very concerned
  11. Frederick Lau (Victoria)
  12. Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind)
Ben Mendelsohn is like Allison Janney in that they both have been getting cast like crazy lately but it's because they're actually huuuge assets to every project they take on. PS Ryan Reynolds is also great in this! Don't sleep on this movie
  13. Jason Segel (The End of the Tour)
  14. Runners-up: Jesse Eisenberg (The End of the Tour), John Cusack (Love & Mercy), Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation), Olivier Rabourdin (Eastern Boys), Michael B. Jordan (Creed)
  15. BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
  16. Cynthia Nixon (James White)
    DESTROYED me.
  17. Lucy Owen (The Mend)
I barely know who this actress is but three trips down The Mend, I learn new things about her character every time. Hope her film career takes off.
  18. Jada Pinkett Smith (Magic Mike XXL)
Literally mesmerized by the way she'll say something as simple as "alright"
  19. Kristen Stewart (Clouds of Sils Maria)
    bonus points: American Ultra
  20. Tessa Thompson (Creed)
  21. Runners-up: Viola Davis (Blackhat), Rachel McAdams (Spotlight), Elizabeth Debicki (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.), Sarah Paulson (Carol), Phyllis Smith (Inside Out)
