One song per artist. Took me FOREVER to feel satisfied with this list.
  1. Parenthetical Girls - Evelyn McHale
Was never not going to be #1. If I made music I'd want it to sound like this
  2. Fiona Apple - Left Alone
One of the greatest lyricists ever. Any song off this album would have qualified, but the orotund mutt/moribund slut rhyme gets me every time
  3. Justin Bieber - Die In Your Arms
I truly have no idea why this wasn't all over the radio. It was my ringtone for like a year.
  4. Perfume Genius - Queen
PG has released 3 near-perfect albums in 5 years and he's getting more musically ambitious with each one. This is also maybe my music video of the decade so far
  5. Magic Kids - Summer
Off my most listened to album of the 2010s, Memphis.
  6. P!nk - Just Give Me a Reason (feat. Nate Ruess)
One of very few post-2010 radio smashes I'm still thrilled to hear when it comes on the radio
  7. Owen Pallett - The Great Elsewhere
Like with Fiona Apple, just one of soooo many Owen Pallett songs I could have chosen
  8. Lion Babe - Treat Me Like Fire
Vanessa Williams' daughter! Will probably always remind me of college.
  9. Girls - The Oh So Protective One
Big accomplishment for me learning to play this on the trumpet in high school
  10. Jens Lekman - An Argument With Myself
"Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?"
  11. Le1f - Wut
I'm lame with rap but this is my favorite recent rap song
  12. Mariah Carey - Make It Look Good
Not a single, for some reason? The grooviest she's been since "Shake It Off." Stevie Wonder on harmonica makes it for me.
  13. Paws - Catherine 1956
Huge sucker for songs about moms, dead or alive. This one took me by surprise when I initially used it as a filler "new track" on my college radio show. I still don't know any other Paws songs.
  14. Avi Buffalo - Five Little Sluts
The song I'm most likely to include on a mixtape I'm making a friend
  15. Martha Wainwright - Proserpina
Martha's brilliant mom Kate McGarrigle wrote this before she died. The whole family recorded a live concert version that's even more heartbreaking
  16. SSION - My Love Grows in the Dark
I have a spot for this song because my sister briefly interned for one of the drag queens in the music video
  17. Shannon and the Clams - Mama
Shannon Shaw's work with Hunx and His Punx is also worth shouting out. They'll probably have a song in a commercial or something soon and get huge. I hope so, at least
  18. Kelly Rowland - Motivation
Played this (often with the video) at possibly every single college pregame I attended
  19. Xiu Xiu - Gul Mudin
Xiu Xiu def isn't everyone's thing but no one else to my knowledge is making such overtly, complexly political pop music this catchy
  20. Robyn - Tell You (Today)
Best in show off last year's Arthur Russell covers album
  21. Larsen - Annie's Rap
the six-minute mumble-y narrative spoken word track that bums me out most
  22. Beyoncé - No Angel
Dismissed this for a long time but slowly became my most played off the album. Starting to think/worry I like it because it doesn't really sound like Beyoncé
  23. Zola Jesus - Sea Talk
I tend to obsess over musicians' ages but the fact that ZJ was 21 when this album was released still astounds me five years later
  24. Jherek Bischoff - Eyes (feat. David Byrne)
This song got me into Talking Heads, which is embarrassing
  25. Deerhunter - He Would Have Laughed
The final two minutes of this especially slay me
  26. Honorable Mentions (listed alphabetically): Azealia Banks - 212; Bonde do Role - Brazilian Boys (feat. Ce'Cile); Diamond Rings - All Yr Songs; Dum Dum Girls - Blank Girl; Glasser - Forge; Grimes - Oblivion; Lady Antebellum - Need You Now; Loudon Wainwright III - 10; Rufus Wainwright - The Dream; Taylor Swift - Back to December; Twin Sister - Stop
