32 Things I Learned as I Turn 32

I turn 32 on Sunday 1/29/2017. Here are a few things I have learned along the way. I will add a new lesson next year.

    All that glitters ain't gold and you can't take any of this with you when you die.
  2. 2.
    Good music will touch your soul and make you think. Sometimes even dance without realizing you are dancing.
  3. 3.
    Write thank you notes, it is a lost art. People appreciate the thought.
  4. 4.
    Don't answer emails immediately if you are upset. Calm yourself, gather you thoughts and craft your response carefully.
  5. 5.
    Eat everything at least once, especially foods from other cultures. Food is the way people welcome you into their lives and you don't want to come off as rude.
  6. 6.
    In a marriage find shared hobbies and interests. Life gets crazy and it is good to have something that keeps you connected.
  7. 7.
    Travel, Travel, Travel!!!! So much to see in the world!
  8. 8.
    When you meet new people ask them questions about themselves. It is an easy icebreaker because people love to take about themselves.
  9. 9.
    Say you love someone often and randomly. Just throw it in conversations randomly. Leave no doubt in you love ones minds how you feel about them.
  10. 10.
    Set reminders for big and small tasks. Good habits take effort and repetition.
  11. 11.
    Always have cash in your wallet. In case of emergencies and if a place you are at doesn't accept credit cards.
  12. 12.
    Label and organize your emails. Think of it as a digital closet.
  13. 13.
    If you are confused by a text message call the person. Sometimes text get lost in translation.
  14. 14.
    Show up to places early. Feels less panicked then showing up late.
  15. 15.
    Brush your teeth twice a day and floss at least once a day.
  16. 16.
    Take as many pictures as you can. Capture memories for when you get older.
  17. 17.
    Learn how to cook. Nothing is more embarrassing then a grown man that doesn't know who to prepare food and can only use the microwave.
  18. 18.
    Drink coffee black and your whiskey neat. They are perfect the way they are and if makes ordering them easy.
  19. 19.
    Sleep 7-9 hours a night. It is great for your overall health and mind. You can think clearer when you are rested.
  20. 20.
    Find a mentor. Learn from someone who inspires you and someone who is where you want to be in the future.

    Set goals both short term and long term goals.
  22. 22.
    Put stuff back in the same place everytime. It is so stressful when you think you have lost something.
  23. 23.
    Be clear about your expectations with others. People can't read your mind and telling them what you need clearly sill make sure they live up to your expectations.
  24. 24.
    Listen to a ted talk or read a news article a day. Being informed helps your stay connected to the world around you.
  25. 25.
    Save money! It is so important in case of emergencies.
  26. 26.
    Listen to "Everybody's Free" at least once a month. It has so many great life lessons and the beat is pretty good.
  27. 27.
    Do one thing that scares you at least once a year. Growth comes from discomfort.
  28. 28.
    Don't waste your time on jealousy. Besides there is always someone out there that wishes they had what you have. The grass is always greener.

    Remember friends come and go but some stick around for a lifetime. Appreciate those friends.
  30. 30.
    Respect your elders. One day you will be an elder and you would hope someone respects you.
  31. 31.
    Remember the compliments and forget the insults. When you figure out how to do this effectively let me know.
  32. 32.
    Don't overschedule or over book yourself. Management your time and allow yourself time to chill/recharge.
