WORDS I LEARNED (AND USED) THIS DECEMBER

One of my great joys in life is learning new words. Actually using these new words is an even bigger joy! I'm starting modestly, but am looking forward to using The List to keep track of exciting new words.
  1. Anapodoton
A word word! This is what you call a phrase like, "When in Rome . . ." You can trail off and everyone still understands exactly what the main clause/point of your sentence is.
  2. Cabotage
Why yes, I did work in shipping for months before bothering to learn that this word refers to trade between domestic ports. Thank you, John Cabot, for your biggest legacy.
  3. Metonymy
The part signifies the whole. Another word word!
  4. Vernissage
A preview before the actual art opening.
