@ me your fave or best version of Hamlet in a movie or audiobook. Either the pure version or an iteration of the plot line. Cheers, friends x
  1. It's just a short song: Cyril: [singing] Cheer up, Hamlet; chin up, Hamlet; buck up, you melancholy Dane! So your uncle is a cad who murdered Dad and married Mum. That's really no excuse to be as glum as you've become! So wise up, Hamlet; rise up, Hamlet; perk up and sing a new refrain.
Your incessant monologizing fills the castle with ennui. Your antic disposition is embarrassing to see. And by the way, you sulky brat, the answer is to be! You're driving poor Ophelia insane. So shut up, you rogue and peasant; grow up, it's most unpleasant; cheer up, you melancholy Dane!

  4. For the condensed story, you want to go to YouTube and search for "Thug Notes Hamlet"
You'll watch a ~10 minute video that will give you the whole plot + pretty solid insight on the themes. Not to mention it's hilarious

  5. Full version movie: Branagh's Hamlet circa 1996
Plus side is the awesome cast, all of who have a beautiful handle in Shakespeare. The downside is that absolutely no text is cut so it is 4+ hours. Other (shorter, edited film versions) star Mel Gibson and Ethan Hawks)

  6. Best audiobook: Arkangel version, done by Royal Shakespeare Company members
Audiobooks can be difficult with Shakespeare unless you're reading along — it can sometimes be hard to tell smaller characters apart when the action gets rapid. Arkangel is hands-down the best audio. These were done in the 1990s and are easy to find online or in libraries.

  7. @andersun is always up for looping me in on on Bard posts/questions here (I haven't back off li.st just yet!) & is the single-handed li.st PR man for my blog ❤ Also @jennifergster - I ADORE that you put the Slings & Arrows season 1 theme here!
