A few movies that are sneakily good to great.
- •Don Jon (2013)Jospeh Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut smartly eschews satirizing or mocking the subject of vain, young urbanites looking for sex & love. I've only watched it once but it stays with me.
- •The Purge: Anarchy (2014)The underwhelming first installment of this series failed to capitalize on a solid concept. This sequel proves to be a much more thrilling and subversive tale. Looking forward to the next film that will also feature star Frank Grillo.
- •The Hammer (2007)Did not expect to love this shaggy dog comedy with a big heart that stars Adam Corolla as an over the hill wannabe boxer that finds sudden success in the sport. A tale of a loser that makes good and how unprepared we can be for that.
- •Speed Racer (2008)Panned by critics and a box office bomb, I find this deliriously intoxicatingly visual masterpiece from the Wachowskis to be a fun ride.
