Not a comprehensive list, but rather a ranking of all the songs I have in my personal collection. In the making of this list, I learned 1) I can listen to a song for years and not understand half the lyrics and still love it 2) I know nothing about music and can only make vague comments about "beats" and "lyrics." PLEASE ENJOY!
  1. 1.
SO BEAUTIFUL. I don't know what to tell you. The pianoforte is brilliant. And the lyrics are like a punch to the heart. But like a soft, gentle punch. I could listen to this until the day I die. I feel it in my bones.
  2. 2.
    Oxford Comma
Literary/grammatical references are everything. ALSO Lil Jon references are even more impressive??? I've been listening to this song since I was 14 and I only JUST heard the Lil Jon reference like a few months ago. Also a great beat and you get to swear a lot as you sing along
  3. 3.
    Everlasting Arms
This song would be perfect if it weren't for the weird auto tune.
  4. 4.
    I Stand Corrected
THE best beat. The drums are everything. And the lyrics are amazing too. Ugh so good you guys.
  5. 5.
    Hannah Hunt
GORG lyrics. I will admit that this is probably their best writing. I heard that they worked on this song for years, and it shows. Slow, but the right kind of slow.
  6. 6.
    Don't Lie
SOLID lyrics. Solid beat. And such pretty piano movements.
  7. 7.
    Finger Back
I'm not gonna lie. This is a little too upbeat for me. But it has a pretty strong beat and contains the lyrics I've related to the most out of all lyrics ever so it automatically gets a pretty high ranking. Like the monologue about the falafel shop and the laminated poster of the dome of the rock? I don't get it or understand it AT ALL, but I love it. I love it so much.
  8. 8.
    Cape Cod Kwassa
I dig it. I dig the commitment to Cape Cod.
  9. 9.
    Obvious Bicycle
These lyrics can make me cry. The good kind of slow song.
  10. 10.
    Ya Hey
This has some pretty strong lyrics and a pretty good beat. Loses points for the weird auto tune.
  11. 11.
    Diane Young
This, oddly, is not too much for me. The song fittingly lives fast and dies young. Gives me a good rush of adrenaline.
  12. 12.
This is okay when you're listening to the album the whole way through but otherwise it gets skipped. Too melancholy. But like as always the lyrics are pretty good.
  13. 13.
    Worship You
Solid middle of the pack song. Okay beat, okay lyrics.
  14. 14.
Good lowkey song. Doesn't try too hard to be more than it is and I appreciate that.
  15. 15.
I used to love this until I went to college and realized campuses aren't that great. Still has some pretty strong lyrics and a great beat.
  16. 16.
I listened to this and liked it BEFORE it was on Wii Just Dance. I just need you all to know that. But I also went fucking HARD dancing to it on Wii Just Dance.
  17. 17.
A love story about Cape Cod but Cape Cod Kwassa is a better love story about Cape Cod. The weird guitar strumming is a lil much for me but certainly not their worst.
  18. 18.
My only opinion on this is that it sounds like it could pass as a song in a Jane Austen movie.
  19. 19.
    Giving Up the Gun
I only like this because Jake Gyllenhaal is in the music video. And yet still definitely the best song on Contra.
  20. 20.
    Mansard Roof
This song taught me that different kinds of roofs have names. So that's pretty cool.
  21. 21.
Only redeeming qualities are big words like balaclava and horchata.
  22. 22.
One (Blake's Got a New Face)
This is okay but it's too much for me. It sounds like the equivalent of taking ecstasy whenever your normal drink limit is two beers and you've never even smoked a joint before. It's just too much.
  23. 23.
    Young Lion
A completely amazing ending for the greatest album they've done. But otherwise it gets skipped. Unless it's gently brining you down from the emotional high of listening to the whole album, it's kind of boring.
  24. 24.
    Diplomat's Son
Sometimes I feel like I'm having a seizure when I listen to this. ALSO it's like 6 minutes long? Like, Jesus.
