Books Read in June 2016

  1. This is Just My Face: Try Not to Stare by Gabourey Sidibe
I really wanted to love this book and there were parts of it that I did love and identify with. She has lived a fascinating life so far. However, her stories told in a sort of rambling/ pieces out of order sort of way that I did not love.
  2. Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
I loved this book hardcore. She is so wise.
  3. The Little Paris Bookshop
I'm a person who loves books about book lovers. But let me say that I did not in any way love this book. I'm impressed I finished it. It also has a misleading title. More than half of it is not set in Paris (though it is France), and it's not at all about a bookstore, more about a man who happens to sell books on a barge while he mourns the love of his life.
  4. The Princess Diarist
Two things struck me about Carrie Fisher: 1) She is brave for publishing sections of her diaries when she was young and having an affair with Harrison Ford. I never had an affair with Harrison Ford, but I have diaries from my early 20s when I had plenty of crushes. To read that stuff now is embarrassing.I could never publish it for the world. 2) She strikes me as sad. She stumbled into Leia when she was young and her whole life was shaped by it. It seems she might have chosen a different life.
