LIFE AND DEATH AND KNOWLEDGE

By Gabriel Gadfly.
  1. "I.
  2. You only have these hours and days.
  3. II.
  4. When you accept them,
  5. you have no need of
  6. afterlives or priorlives.
  7. You have the single empty box
  8. of a life and all the universe
  9. to fill it with.
  10. III.
  11. Live like this: there is an end to you.
  12. Don't fear it. Don't wallow.
  13. Flowers wilt. Rivers dry up.
  14. Even the stars extinguish themselves.
  15. Have your time and then let it go.
  16. IV.
  17. Do not shy from your ending
  18. with mad horse eyes.
  19. V.
  20. Allow the box of your life,
  21. when you have filled it,
  22. to have its spaces.
  23. Resist the temptation
  24. to stuff the gaps with gods
  25. who do not know you.
  26. VI.
  27. Pull Uncertainty into your arms
  28. and kiss her on the lips:
  29. too many neglect her,
  30. but she is an eager lover,
  31. and desires only your attention.
  32. Let her teach you how to say
  33. 'I do not know, and that is beautiful.'
  34. VII.
  35. You only have these minutes and years."
