THE FIRST POEM I EVER MEMORIZED

Inspired by @amieshmamie and in honour of World Poetry Day. From John Marsden's So Much To Tell You, written from one character to a silent other. I've discovered so much poetry since (FIFTEEN POEMS I AM FOND OF), but this has always stayed with me. ❤️
  1. “Pale as ice you passed me by;
  2. I wondered what you really felt,
  3. And waited through the changing times,
  4. To see if you would one day melt.
  5. ...
  6. I thought that ice would melt with warmth,
  7. But there were things I did not know:
  8. The sun can touch the outer layers,
  9. But does not reach the deepest snow.
  10. ...
  11. Winter sometimes seems like years,
  12. Summer's sometimes far away,
  13. But winter always turns to summer,
  14. As surely as does night to day."
