WHITE DOG

Some people say depression is a black dogs. I'm not so sure. Poem by Charles Bukowski.
  1. I went for a walk on Hollywood Boulevard.
  2. I looked down and there was a large white dog
  3. walking beside me.
  4. his pace was exactly the same as mine,
  5. we stopped at traffic signals together.
  6. a woman smiled at us.
  7. he must have walked 8 blocks with me.
  8. then I went into a grocery store and
  9. when I came out he as gone.
  10. or she was gone.
  11. the wonderful white dog
  12. with a trace of yellow in its fur.
  13. the large blue eyes were gone.
  14. the grinning mouth was gone.
  15. the lolling mouth was gone.
  16. things are so easily lost.
  17. things just can't be kept forever.
  18. I got the blues.
  19. I got the blues.
  20. that dog loved me and
  21. trusted me and
  22. I let it walk away.
