MY 90S PLAYLIST

Limited to 30 when I realized it could become unreadable, so there's a reason for each. That didn't work so it's 35.
  1. I Want You - Savage Garden
I know every single word to this entire song because I sat in my room with the liner notes for something like 4 hours straight.
  2. Heartbreaker - Mariah Carey
First song I ever slow danced with a boy. I don't really get why, this is not a slow song.
  3. Everlong - Foo Fighters
Asked my mom to take drum lessons after I heard this for the first time. [She said no, I had just started playing clarinet. Nothing was fair.]
  4. Torn - Natalie Imbruglia
One of life's greater injustices that she didn't have a bigger career. Or probably not, but I love this song.
  5. Bitch - Meredith Brooks
    I actively have to remind myself I can say the word "bitch" now and don't have to sing: "I'm a ... , I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother..."
  6. One Headlight - The Wallflowers
First song I remember voting for on TRL. Also Jakob Dylan and dem blue eyes can sing to me whenever they want.
  7. Show Me Love - Robyn
The way Kristen/Maya's characters in Bridesmaids feel about "Hold On" is the way my best friend and I feel about this song.
  8. Lightning Crashes - Live
Easily the best song written with the word "placenta" in it. Someone correct me if there's a better one.
  9. Come On Over - Christina Aguilera
First song I "performed" in public because I was listening to it on my Walkman, belting it out in the back of the bus on a school trip, eyes closed getting REAL into it when my teacher asked for quiet.
  10. I Love You Always Forever - Donna Lewis
I'm pretty sure no one THINKS they know the words to this song but they just DO.
  11. Say My Name - Destiny's Child
My friend and I sent a tape to MTV to be on Fanatic for DC when we were in maybe 3rd grade. We thought we had a good shot.
  12. Lovefool - The Cardigans
Amazing song in very small quantities.
  13. Don't Speak - No Doubt
I could not have loved Gwen Stefani harder in the 90s and this song is the reason why. Also the Just A Girl video where she smashes all the wedding cakes.
  14. Buddy Holly - Weezer
I aimed only to have one song per band/artist but Say It Ain't So would also clearly be on this list.
  15. Alive - Pearl Jam
First time I remember not being physically able to suppress air guitar/drums.
  16. If It Makes You Happy - Sheryl Crow
Pre-Lance Sheryl makes me happy so it can't be that bad.
  17. No Diggity - Blackstreet
Hey oh, hey oh, hey oh heyoooooo
  18. How Do I Live - Leann Rimes
Oh, Leann. The 90s were such a simpler time for you.
  19. Song 2 - Blur
This song used to drive my mom SO insane in the car, she used to call it "that WOOO song"
  20. Shoop - Salt-N-Pepa
Girls what's my weakness? Men! [lyrically, this song crushes it]
  21. You Outta Know - Alanis Morissette
So glad I didn't know this song could be about Uncle Joey, but then again I probably didn't get what I was singing when I blindly sang, "would she go down on you in a theater?"
  22. Building a Mystery - Sarah McLachlan
This song always reminds me of Sunny Came Home, so I couldn't put them both on. I think this is slightly less sad and less about arson? Wait jk just put on Sunny Came Home and realized it's pretty much in my vocal sweet spot so it's being added to my karaoke list and this must be included.
  23. Sunny Came Home - Shawn Colvin
    See: "Building A Mystery"
  24. Black Balloon - Goo Goo Dolls
Let's call this song the stand in for most Goo Goo Dolls/Matchbox 20 songs of the 90s.
  25. Where My Girls At? - 702
One of the most underrated songs of the decade.
  26. Kiss Me - Sixpence None the Richer
Cannot hear this without seeing Rachael Leigh Cook falling down the stairs.
  27. It's All Coming Back to Me Now - Celine Dion
I forgot that every girl I know loves this song until karaoke on my 26th birthday when I was surrounded by five of my favorite ladies belting it by heart.
  28. Because Of You - 98 Degrees
I cut BSB and NYSNC to make room for this because 98 degrees did not get enough love. I see you, Lachey brothers and you two other dudes.
  29. Every Song by Hootie & the Blowfish from the 90s
    Because they're all gold.
  30. Steal My Sunshine - LIT
My favorite one-hit-wonder of all time.
  31. I Don't Want to Wait - Paula Cole
This song would not have made the cut if not for Dawson's Creek nostalgia / the fact that I can SEE them all walking on the beach/grass/pier in the opening credits when it plays.
  32. Mr. Jones - Counting Crows
From here on out, they're all givens.
  33. Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
    Obviously, be cool.
  34. Mmmbop - Hanson
Your favorite Hanson was important. Mine was Taylor because OBVIOUSLY.
  35. Wannabe - Spice Girls
If this song isn't on your 90s playlist, you're doing it wrong.
