Today is my mom and dad's 25th wedding anniversary. Here is the story of their relationship...
  1. β€’
@lpabbott and Rick met at a bar right outside of the University of Maryland in July 1988.
That bar is sadly no longer there.
  2. β€’
Leslie went out with her brother (my Uncle Mikey), who knew Rick because Rick was renting a room at my uncle's fraternity house that summer 🏑.
My Uncle Mikey is cheesed that he never gets credit for introducing them on their anniversaries. Thanks Uncle Mikey! πŸ’– (This is a photo of the two of us after I was born. He's also my godfather, so we're pretty good buds).
  3. β€’
I would just like to take a moment to recognize that my Uncle Mikey probably wouldn't have been okay with my dad going out with my mom if my dad hadn't had a Jeep.
You see, my Uncle Mikey also had a Jeep, and apparently that was the only criteria for dating his sister. So let's take a moment of silence to recognize that without the Jeep, I probably wouldn't exist right now. Okay, moment over.
  4. β€’
They hung out that night, and Rick called Leslie the next day to ask her out on a date.
They continued in a long distance relationship as Rick was attending Purdue University in Indiana and Leslie was going to the University of Maryland.
  5. β€’
I found these photos from January 1989 (6 months after they started dating), and they look so crazy young! ❀️
This is Leslie. She was only 21!
  6. β€’
    And this is Rick.
    He was 22!
  7. β€’
Rick graduated from Purdue in May 1989 and moved back to Maryland to be with Leslie πŸŽ“.
    A proud dork!
  8. β€’
At some point, they moved into a townhouse together 🏑, and one time, Rick went out to get the paper and Leslie locked him out and refused to let him back in until he promised that they would get married one day.
He wrote on a piece of the newspaper (that Leslie still has) "I will buy you a ring and marry you" πŸ“°. The newspaper date was on the back, and it was June 3, 1990 πŸ“…. I love this adorable, undated photo of them.
  9. β€’
In August of 1990, Rick asked Leslie to marry him while they were on a boat β›΄πŸ’πŸ˜ƒ.
She said yes, but she had already found the ring earlier in the desk that they were sharing. She'd already tried it on and everything πŸ’πŸ˜‚. I don't know when this photo was taken, but I like it.
  10. β€’
They moved to a house near college park with Leslie's dog Chelsea 🐢.
Chelsea was Leslie's black lab who died when my sister was about a year old. Leslie and Rick adored her and she was wonderful with my sister.
  11. β€’
Here is Leslie at her wedding shower.
She was 24 when this picture was taken.
  12. β€’
On September 7, 1991, Leslie and Rick got married πŸ’.
Here they are saying their vows. This is a screenshot from their wedding video πŸŽ₯πŸ“Ό.
  13. β€’
    The beautiful bride! πŸ‘°πŸΌβ€οΈ
This is one of my favorite photos of her.
  14. β€’
They danced their first dance to Unchained Melody 🎼.
Otherwise known as the song from the pottery scene in Ghost.
  15. β€’
It was a happy day for everyone!! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–
Here is Rick and Leslie with Leslie's parents πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦, my grandma and grandpa.
  16. β€’
For their childless years of marriage, they traveled all over the place, while working and Leslie was finishing her degree βœˆοΈπŸ“ŸπŸŽ“.
Rick lived for short amounts of time in Paris and New York City πŸ—½ because of his job. This photo is from Leslie's friend Maggie's wedding, where she was a bridesmaidπŸ‘—.
  17. β€’
Leslie graduated from the University of Maryland with her degree in English in May 1994.
  18. β€’
Late 1994 and early 1995 was spent getting ready for a very exciting event...
    Drumroll please...
  19. β€’
The birth of their first child! πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ
That's Leslie pregnant with my sister. Isn't she an adorable pregnant woman? πŸ˜β€οΈπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ
  20. β€’
On May 17, 1995, they became Mommy and Daddy πŸ’‘.
Madison Elizabeth was born at 11:53pm and my parents were in love 😍. Check her out, representing the school where her parents met πŸ‘ΆπŸΌπŸ’•πŸ’.
  21. β€’
They spent the next two years in love with my sister, the so-called "perfect baby."
When @madisonelizabeth was 1, her pediatrician told my mom that my mom couldn't have any more children because my sister was so perfect that no other children would live up to her (πŸ™„).
  22. β€’
    Enter their second born πŸ‘§πŸΌπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ.
Lexington Elyse was born on April 25, 1997, at 11:22pm and rocked their worlds πŸ’ž.
  23. β€’
We became a happy family of 4 πŸ‘±πŸΌπŸ‘©πŸΌπŸ‘§πŸΌπŸ‘ΆπŸΌ.
I might not look happy, but I promise I am.
  24. β€’
My mom and dad took their two new best friends and showed them the world 🌎.
We're a little unsure about this...
  25. β€’
They took us on adventures πŸ›€
Like to our great grandma's house 🏑.
  26. β€’
They took us on the carousel.
  27. β€’
They took us to the beach 🏝
I'm that lump of towel, hair, and feet on my mom's lap.
  28. β€’
They took us horse back riding.
  29. β€’
    They took us snow tubing.
  30. β€’
But most importantly, they have loved us like crazy, while still being the most adorable couple in existence πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—.
Here they are at my aunt's wedding in 2000 🌺.
  31. β€’
    I mean seriously,

    They are ❀️❀️❀️❀️
You can't see it, but moments before this picture was taken, my dad was pretending to punch my mom in the stomach. Taking a photo of the two of them is a process and I still haven't mastered it.
  36. β€’
A few months ago, I mentioned to my dad that their 25th anniversary was coming up, and I asked what the secret was. He said "you just have to marry the right person, and then try not to kill 'em." So there you have it, a love story and some relationship advice.
  37. β€’
Happy anniversary to two of my favorite people in the entire world! ❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️
