TIMES I'VE CRIED IN THE CAR LISTENING TO "I'M HERE" FROM THE CAST RECORDING OF 'THE COLOR PURPLE'

A brief selection
  1. That time on Vermont when I missed the on ramp to the 101 South because it was that part where Celie's singing, "Got my hands doing good like they 'sposed to, showing my heart to the folks that I'm close to." Because I was like, "God, I should take up a skilled trade."
  2. That time on Hoover when I missed the turn on Clinton because it was that part where Celie's singing, "And I'm thankful for every day that I'm living. Both the easy and hard ones I'm given." Because oh my God, that's so beautiful.
  3. That time on Hyperion when I should have been on Griffith Park because it was that part where Celie's singing, "I believe I have inside of me everything that I need to live a bountiful life." Because though it doesn't always feel like it, that's probably true.
  4. That time on Franklin stuck in the 7pm traffic leading up to the 101 North because it was that part where Celie's singing, "I'm gonna take a deep breath, gonna hold my head up, gonna put my shoulders back and look you straight in the eye." Because my dad had just visited and it didn't go well.
  5. That time I missed the stop sign on Hoover because it was that part where Celie's singing, "Got my eyes, though they don't see as far now. They see more bout how things really are now." Because oh my God, that's so true.
  6. That time I almost rear ended someone on the turn from Temple onto Virgil because it was that part where Celie's singing, "I got my children. I can't hold them now. They may not be here, but they still mine. I hope they know I still love them." Even though I don't have any children.
  7. That time on Ogden driving my sister's car while she was out of town and I did rear end someone while backing out of a driveway because it was that part where Celie's singing "I've got my sister. I can feel her now, she may not be here, but she still mine. I know, I know she still love me." Even though Taylor was just out of town for a few days.
