BOOKS I HAVE DNF'ED

Inspired by @barefootmeds - Did Not Finish. I usually have few qualms about quitting books. I have too many books to read to waste time on ones I'm not into.
  1. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle but Haruki Murakami
At this point (2008) I had a rule that I'd give a book 50 pages and then either quit or finish. I got to page 400 in this 600 page book and got bored. So I quit it and changed my rule to I can quit anytime after 50 pages. I'm happy to report I no longer have any rules about how long I need to read a book before I quit.
  2. Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz
I liked the first few of this series but this was so bad.
  3. Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia
    Not into it.
  4. Entwined by Heather Dixon
    Oof. Not for me.
  5. All the Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld
I chose this based on the cover. Let me tell you, not a great move.
  6. The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri
    🤷‍♀️
  7. Tales of a Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman
    🙄
  8. The River's Tale by Edward Gargan
I like travel memoirs but they have a high likelihood of being obnoxious.
  9. The Yiddish Policeman's Union by Michael Chabon
    Not interested.
  10. Alexandria by Lindsey Davis
Some of the racism and stuff may have been historically accurate but no thanks.
  11. At the Tomb of the Inflatable Pig by John Gimlette
What he actually did in Paraguay was pretty boring.
  12. A Complaint Free World by Will Bowen
This is a motivational speech stretched into a book.
  13. The Secret History by Donna Tartt
I didn't want to read about insufferable assholes.
  14. The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro
Written like a fairy tale with no real characterization.
  15. The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by A.N. Roquelaure (aka Anne Rice)
My coworker at the time suggested this as like Fifty Shades but better. But it was just way more coercive. Eww.
  16. I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai
I'm sorry but it is not very well written even though her story is a great one.
  17. My Age of Anxiety by Scott Stossel
I think I just ran out of time at the library.
  18. The Gluten Lie by Alan Levinovitz
    I get it already.
  19. The Windflower by Laura London
I need more consent in my romance.
  20. The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
    So boring... so long.
  21. On Paper by Nicholas Basbanes
    Written sooo pretentiously.
  22. My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante
I very nearly kept going because I felt like I was SUPPOSED to like it. But I didn't.
  23. The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer
This was all over the place.
  24. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters
Not even the mystery could hold me.
  25. A Fierce and Subtle Poison by Samantha Mabry
    🤷‍♀️
  26. Feedback by Mira Grant
Do yourself a favor and pretend the series is only a trilogy.
  27. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn
    I found this disturbing.
  28. The King Must Die by Mary Renault
    😴
  29. The Devourers by Indra Das
Wasn't feeling how gross this was.
  30. Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
    Boring
  31. The Golden Lily by Richelle Mead
    Stick with Vampire Academy.
  32. Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
    I'm sorry that I'm terrible...
  33. Runaway by Alice Munro
    Too depressing.
  34. Breathless by Beverly Jenkins
Disappointing because the first Beverly Jenkins I read was great, but the dialogue in this was so bad I couldn't keep going.
  35. Young Elites by Marie Lu
    Too cliche, bored me.
  36. Ninefox Gambit by Yoon Ha Lee
I found this extremely hard to get into and then once I started understanding what anything meant I just wasn't that interested.
