Random space stuff that I think about all the time 🚀✨

Inspired by a mini nerd out I had on Twitter at the weekend.
  1. The USSR Zond 5 capsule that contained 2 tortoises who were the first moon travelers to return safely to Earth.
Tortoise astronaut pals! Space tortoises on the moon! BFF tortoises reminiscing about their Moon mission. Generations of baby tortoises growing up hearing about their space faring ancestors! An alternate universe where all our space exploration was done by tortoises! I just can't cope with any of this. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zond_5
  2. The Lego minifigs of Jupiter, Juno and Galileo aboard the Juno probe currently orbiting Jupiter.
And people say NASA have no sense of humour. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/juno/news/lego20110803.html
  3. The Russian space shuttle
They spent billions on it because they thought the US shuttle had secret weaponry and then it only flew in space once. I could watch a ten hour documentary about this and the abandoned cosmodrome. http://uk.businessinsider.com/photos-of-russian-abandoned-space-shuttles-by-ralph-mirebs-2015-6
  4. NASA's deep sea underwater laboratory, NEEMO
This was featured in the Space Brothers anime and I just read an article about it. It's so fascinating how similar it is to being in space and how little we've explored our oceans. Also that is a top notch logo and I want it on a t-shirt. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jun/23/finding-neemo-nasa-goes-from-the-bottom-of-the-ocean-to-outer-space
  5. Alexei Leonov's tin of coloured pencils
I saw these actual pencils at the Cosmonauts exhibition and it just hit me hard imagining him up there drawing in space. They're all tied together with string so they don't float away. AMAZING THINGS I SAW AT THE COSMONAUTS EXHIBITION
  6. The Arecibo message
This was sent out to aliens in 1974 and I've loved it since I saw it in my space dictionary aged about ten. It's just such a great piece of design. I made one out of perler beads which is framed on my studio wall because that's the kind of space nerd I am. http://blog.askingfortrouble.co.uk/2014/07/perler-bead-arecibo/
I can't even articulate this one. It's just so cool. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryovolcano
