I did not know the late Sam Simon that well, but I have been thinking a lot about his legacy. Here are a few highlights:
  1. The Simpsons
  2. South Park
  3. Family Guy
  4. Really almost every other good cartoon
In that The Simpsons template fundamentally changed the way a generation of writers think & create
  5. That includes animated movies
Really, the show was a big deal
  6. A whole lot of live-action TV, including The British Office, Parks & Rec, & Community
    Prove me wrong
  7. Comedy as we know it
  8. FOX News
A sad, Simpsons-y irony is that without the mega-success of the show, the News Corp media empire would not have expanded into "news"
  9. The Sam Simon Foundation & many other great charities
  10. The Sea Shepherd Society's Sam Simon anti-whaling vessel
Literally rams whaling ships. So bad-ass
  11. Many abused-but-alive circus elephants
  12. My house
  13. A lot of my friends' houses
  14. Jennifer Tilly's great fortune & poker glory
  15. The Land of Chocolate
