W.H. Auden Seems Appropriate Today

This, from his poem, "September 1, 1939." Thanks to Rick Ayers for sharing.
  1. I and the public know
  2. What all schoolchildren learn,
  3. Those to whom evil is done
  4. Do evil in return...
  5. Defenseless under the night
  6. Our world in stupor lies;
  7. Yet, dotted everywhere,
  8. Ironic points of light
  9. Flash out wherever the Just
  10. Exchange their messages:
  11. May I, composed like them
  12. Of Eros and of dust,
  13. Beleaguered by the same
  14. Negation and despair,
  15. Show an affirming flame.
