Top 6 Wes Craven Movies

Wes Craven left us too soon, but he left a legacy of equally amazing and terrifying movies behind, including the iconic Freddy Krueger. In honor of Wes Craven's birthday August 2nd, we list our favorite Wes Craven films here. Maybe it's time for a re-watch, but we'll be too afraid to sleep afterwards...
  1. The Last House on the Left
As Craven's debut feature, the 1972 film holds up incredibly well today. We definitely prefer the original to the 2009 remake.
  2. A Nightmare on Elm Street
The movie that launched Craven into the mainstream and unleashed Freddy Krueger into our dreams. This movie is a classic!
  3. The Serpent and the Rainbow
An interesting digression from 'Nightmare on Elm Street', this film has political themes running through it, much like Craven's 'Last House on the Left'. Also, zombies. Who doesn't like zombies?
  4. New Nightmare
'New Nightmare' was Craven's triumphant return to Elm Street. Though the sequels were getting more and more ridiculous, this film brought the horror back to Freddy, and also back into real life. The meta style and Freddy redesign brought the nightmare back for all of us.
  5. Scream/Scream 2
Speaking of meta films, Scream is great because it's self-aware and incredibly clever. Plus, Neve Campbell makes a terrific final girl. How could this movie not be on this list?
  6. Red Eye
Give some credit to 'Red Eye', Craven fans. This film shows that Craven was still very much an innovator within the horror genre at this time. Give some props to that.
