IN THE WORDS OF JANE ELLIOTT

I'm paraphrasing a little, but this got to me. She's saying this to an auditorium filled with white people.
  1. I want every white person in this room,
  2. Who would be happy to be treated
  3. As this society in general treats our black citizens,
  4. Please stand up!
  5. [No one stands up]
  6. You didn't understand the directions.
  7. If you white folks want to be treated the way blacks are in this society,
  8. Please stand!
  9. [No one moves]
  10. Nobody is standing here!
  11. That says very plainly
  12. That you know what's happening.
  13. You know you don't want it for you.
  14. I want to know why
  15. You are so willing to accept
  16. Or to allow it to happen to others
