A short list of favorite Mediterranean Cook Books
  1. The Traditionalist: Lidia's Mastering the Art of Italian Cuisine by Lida Matticchio Bastianich
I come from an Italian-American NJ family that prides itself on one thing in the kitchen: sauce (aka gravy). Think of it as the foundation for all great Italian inspired dishes.
  2. The Local: Sicily by Phaidon
Arab and Italian influence make Sicily a unique and rich culinary region.
  3. The Progressive: Downtown Italian by Joe Campanale, Gabriel Thompson, and Katerine Thompson
One of my favorite to pull from, the crew Dell'anima in NY's West Village do a great job taking traditional Italian dishes and bringing them into the 21st century.
  4. The Well-Rounded Chef: The Essential Mediterranean Cookbook
A favorite of my Sicilian grandfather, this book touches on all Mediterranean regions with recipes from Greece, Turkey, Italy, France, Spain, North Africa, and the Middle East.
