There are a bunch of reasons I'm a Pearl Jam fan, but one reason is special.

  1. I didn't discover Pearl Jam until maybe 8 or 10 years ago. They've been around for about 25 years, and I wish I'd've known them that long.
  2. Pearl Jam decided from the beginning that this concert tonight was going to be their best concert ever. They were going to put out all effort to make this show great. And by "this concert tonight" they mean "every concert, every night." And every show is the best ever.
They never have a weak night. Ever. Springsteen also uses this rule and all of his shows are great.
  3. The lyrics! "I wish I was the pedal break that you depended on. I wish I was the verb 'to trust' and never let you down." Geez!
  4. There was a terrible disaster at a Pearl Jam show at the Roskikde Festival in Denmark, June 30, 2000 where nine people died, being crushed to death. Since then, every single night, the band is acutely aware of the crowd, stopping mid song if they think the crowd is pushing too hard toward the stage and people might get hurt.
The band saw what was happening, stopped playing and tried to get people to stop, but it was too late. They considered completely quitting music because of this.
  5. They testified in front of congress in their fight against Ticket Master because they thought ticket prices were too high and their fans couldn't afford them.
  6. But man, this video. This really gets me. https://youtu.be/JBcPlX5BCRA
  7. During ⬆️that⬆️ show, the band noticed a woman, Kimberly Rae Schafer performing their songs in American Sign Language.
  8. Ed pulled her up on the stage and they put a spotlight on her for the song Given To Fly. Then magic happened.
  9. The band's reaction to Kym signing gets me every time. They made HER the star of the show.
