UNDERLINING AND ANNOTATIONS FOR MY READING OF DARING GREATLY (SINCE I LISTENED TO IT ON AUDIO)

I listened to Brené Brown's Daring Greatlybon audiobook and these are the things I would underline or write in the margins if i had the physical book. Note: quotes are probably not exact because I have the memory of a goldfish.
  1. "What we know matters, but who we are matters more."
  2. "We're tired of the national conversation centering on 'what should we fear and who should we blame?'"
  3. "Frequently fixin' to come undone" is my new band name.
  4. "Room to swing a cat" ➡️ nothing to do with actual cats. It refers to whippings with a cat o' nine tails, so not sure that's actually better...
  5. "...that reverie of lack."
  6. "Scarcity thrives in a culture in which everyone is hyper-aware of lack."
  7. "We are often comparing our lives... and our communities to unattainable media-driven visions of perfection."
  8. "Nostalgia is also a dangerous form of comparison..."
  9. "There are enough of us struggling with the issue dobsonflies that it's shaping the culture."
  10. A lot of talk about vulnerability being equated with weakness in our minds, but what about resisting vulnerability because it's uncomfortable? That was one of the first ideas expressed in the intro, but now we're only talking about weakness/fear.
  11. "What's worth doing, even if I fail?" YESSSS
  12. "Vulnerability is about sharing our feelings and our experiences with those who have earned the right to hear them."
  13. Harry Potter references!!!
  14. "The secret killer of innovation is shame."
  15. Oy, all of this about women and worthiness and societal norms is too real.
  16. "I am the patriarchy." -- the patriarchy negatively affects men as well as women. Men who exhibit qualities that do not fit in with the societal idea of "manliness" are shamed by both men and women.
  17. We judge other people to get out of the shame web.
  18. Perfectionism is defensive.
  19. Elevating "enough" to whole new levels and setting boundaries sounds a lot like the spoon theory.
  20. "You have to know and respect that I'm totally uncool." Friendship/dating requirement #1
  21. Discomfort is an important part of learning. -- Yesss. Please remind everyone who ever tries to challenge books in schools/communities because of uncomfortable topics.
  22. "Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is show up." Can I just get "show up" tattooed prominently on my body to remind myself of this?
