Nice Attack: What we know so far

Updating, updating
  1. UPDATE: ISIS STILL HAS NOT CLAIMED THIS
Little late. Not their typical MO. Investigators (and me, for what it's worth) think this may have been a "lone-wolf" attack, inspired by but not conducted by ISIS. (Ex: San Bernardino)
  2. UPDATE 7/15: 84 killed, 202 wounded
  3. UPDATE 7/15: Attacker named
Mohammed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year old delivery driver, was named as the attacker. He had a criminal record but no known ties to ISIS.
  4. Update 7/15: Nice airport was evacuated briefly
Flights resumed shortly thereafter. Probably just a precautionary measure.
  5. UPDATE: papers show attacker was French-Tunisian.
Tunisia has had problems with Daesh spillover from Libya in recent months.
  6. UPDATE: France extends State of Emergency for three months
  7. UPDATE: 77 killed, over 100 wounded
    15 in critical condition
  8. Truck drove into a crowd
It is Bastille Day and people were out celebrating. The truck went speeding into the packed Promenade des Anglais.
  9. ISIS HAS NOT CLAIMED IT
Yet. Daesh supporters are going wild on Twitter. French and US leaders are calling it a "terrorist attack" but it is unconfirmed.
  10. Driver was shot and killed
    No identity released yet.
  11. Guns and grenades in the truck
Unconfirmed reports that the driver was shooting at pedestrians while driving.
  12. Nice is on lockdown
People are advised to stay inside their homes
  13. Paris attacks happened almost exactly eight months ago
Eight months and one day. Claimed by Daesh.
