  1. The Information by Martin Amis
As mean to its narrator protagonist as its target- based on one of amis best friends. Couldn't look anyone in the eye for a month after reward this. Felt like something terrible in me had been exposed. My favorite amis
  2. Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh
  3. Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis
  4. A Time to Be Born by Dawn Powell
  5. Sabbaths Theater by Philip Roth
  6. Our Mutual Friend by Charles Dickens
My favorite Dickens for its meanness. Lots of other things going on in this but his portraits of the veneerings - who get married each assuming the other is rich- and podsnap who was based on CDs best friend are as devastating as anything in literature
  7. Towards the End of The Morning
The cruelest satire of the sad lives of newspaper people
