THE 3-POINT FILM REVIEW: DIGGING FOR FIRE

A review of Joe Swanberg & Jake Johnson's new film, inspired by @tothemaxxx and his take on the new David Robert Mitchell movie.
  1. Swanberg is a filmmaker that I have always admired philosophically more than I have actively loved his work, but this new one stuck with me in a way that nothing he's ever made has. I saw it last week and I am still thinking about it.
  2. I know we were just knocking synthy scores, but the work Dan Romer does here is really excellent. Sort of Tangerine Dream-y and I think it's a huge part of what makes DIGGING FOR FIRE work so well. I can't remember the music from a single other Swanberg movie.
  3. There's something amazing about the way actors drop in and out of the film and the performances are incredible top to bottom.
