Movies Watched in Theaters, 2017

  1. 1.
    Manchester by the Sea
I know this movie had mixed reviews, and Casey Affleck... not a fan. But this slice of New England life was pure and painful and beautiful in its way.
  2. 2.
    La La Land
A whirlwind fairytale, for the dreamers ❤
  3. 3.
This film was perfection. A heartbreaking, intercontinental journey of self discovery. And based on a true story. I wish everyone would watch this story and learn something from it. Also, kinda crushing on Dev Patel rn.
  4. 4.
    Hidden Figures
Rock on, women!! So badass and inspiring. Side note: google "hidden figures whitewashed" for an alternate take on this movie, re: parts of the story that were re-imagined for the film. However, it was a joy watching these actresses do their thing, clearly enjoying every moment.

    Get Out
Omigod guys. Cannot get over this. Still processing. 10/10 everyone should see it. Seriously. Go now.

So, I've gotten into the Marvel universe just in the past couple years. Maybe my fave so far was Guardians, maybe. In this movie, I enjoyed the girl the most (obvs) and I appreciated the grit of the movie in general, but I didn't adore it. I can appreciate that to people who are loyal followers of Wolverine, this movie was a big flipping deal.

    Kong: Skull Island
Brief thoughts on Kong: agreed to go because my imaginary BFFL Brie is in it. Also enjoyed Tom H. and John G. Movie was a liiiiiitle over the top, let's be fair! 🔥 🔥 🔥 And Samuel L. Jackson sure did his job as an actor because I hated him with a fiery passion and by extension, the entire US military. Pleasant surprise— that kid from Me and Earl and the Dying girl had a lovely part as well. B-/C+
  8. 8.
Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2
    A straight up good time.
  9. 9.
    Wonder Woman
Definitely some weak points, but the overall message (which I won't write, because spoilers) was wonderful. And what a badass lady!!! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
  10. 10.
    Spider-Man: Homecoming
This was a fun flick, I won't give it an A+ but it was funny and endearing. Tom Holland did a good job.

    The Big Sick
Oh mi gawd. ❤️❤️❤️ you'll laugh. You'll cry sad tears. You'll cry happy tears. You'll "awww!" You'll "omfg." You'll run home and google "true story behind The Big Sick" and nerd out over this amazing couple. Go see this film. A+++

    The Glass Castle
Heart-wrenching. For me this was an interesting character study on how unhealthy attachment styles of parents affect their children. The child actors in this were amazing, as was my friend Brie Larson.
