WHAT MY CHILDHOOD SOUNDED LIKE

Pre-13. I think this is a fairly comprehensive assessment of my musical upbringing.
  1. The Beatles
    Duh
  2. Movie soundtracks on vinyl
Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance, Sleepless in Seattle
  3. The (non-vinyl) soundtrack to Leap of Faith
Insane gospel music mega Patti LaBelle glitter mind brain assplode.
  4. Movie soundtracks in general
They were a much bigger deal, and I think maybe 1/3 of my CD collection was soundtracks. Won't list them all. This trend continued into teen years.
  5. Asleep at the Wheel live in concert (vinyl)
"Last Meal" will be my father's and my first dance at my wedding.
  6. Sweeney Todd
  7. Actually, all things Sondheim
  8. Rogers & Hammerstein
  9. The MGM "That's Entertainment!" Trilogy
  10. Rocky Horror Picture Show
  11. All things Disney
Plus the best: Stay Awake (a cover album of vintage Disney songs)
  12. Star Wars score
🎶Star Wars! Nothing but Star Wars! Nothing but Star Wars! All of the time!🎶 (sung to the tune of the title theme)
  13. Indiana Jones score
  14. John Pizzarelli
Anyone who sings along with his jazz guitar solos is 👌🏻
  15. Steely Dan
Aja. I was mocked endlessly for this.
  16. Yacht rock in general
Hall & Oates, Seals & Croft, Huey Lewis, Kenny Loggins, Toto, etc.
  17. Radiohead
I was not cool for loving them at the time, but looking back, it was one of the only cool things about me. And fuck all my stupid friends who made fun of me for liking the "band with the ugly British guys!"
  18. Green Day & Blink-182
Can't separate them in my mind. Saw the latter open for the former once and it was just THE FUCKING BEST.
  19. Some pop music
Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, etc. I won't lie, I really like a lot of this, but I never went bananas for it. Always seemed like the cool thing to do. Never went to concerts for any of these groups. Will sing the mother loving crap out of them for karaoke.
  20. Ska
    REEL BIG FISH FOREVER
  21. New York Dolls
    And some other post-punk tunes
  22. There is nothing on this list I wouldn't enjoy listening to right now.
