THINGS I DON'T FEEL SAFE DOING BECAUSE I'M A GIRL.

I doubt that men may be as hyper aware in these situations as women are.
  1. I was talking to a guy friend about some of these things. His reaction "girls are just being paranoid."
  2. Enjoying music on headphones while walking home at night.
    I wish
  3. Walking home at night without some form of weapon in my pocket
  4. Sitting in the front seat of a lyft, cab or uber that has a male driver
  5. Being unaware of my body on a crowded bus or train
  6. Using the ride sharing portion of uber out of fear that both my driver and ride sharer may be male
  7. Getting into an elevator that has all men.
  8. Getting onto a train car that has only men or worse just one man, because I'm hyper aware of the fact that it's just me and him and things can move quickly
  9. Being in a parking garage alone.
    Honestly being most places alone.

  12. Stopping to use a gas station bathroom.
I stopped in one over the weekend that had a single unisex bathroom. I was the only woman there, outnumbered by abt 20 men buying beer and lotto tickets. I didn't feel safe and left. Found out a cop was shot there a little while later, after an argument broke out over (what else) beer.

  14. walking on a quiet street where there is also one man

  15. walking along through a construction walkway detour after dark
nobody can see you in these things, it seems really unsafe and scary for women

  16. looking at a truck driver
they do really horrible things if you make eye contact. looking at a lot of people actually. women have to constantly avert their eyes from masturbatory gestures

  25. When I worked at Starbucks & would open with my male manager & for 30 minutes it was just the two of us alone in a locked building
I don't know if I 'felt unsafe' per se. I trusted my manager & was about as certain as any woman can be that he wouldn't hurt me. But it often crossed my mind that he knew where all the cameras were & it was just the two of us & he could totally rape me & no one would ever know. I wasn't constantly in fear of that happening or anything, but I was definitely always aware it was a possibility.

  26. Fully expressing myself because of the stigmatization that women are just emotional puppies and I'm not actually serious.
I found recently men who express themselves fully are less in line of criticism and paid attention to more, because it would suggest they have a more legitimate standing.

  30. Saying "no thanks, I'm not interested" if a guy tries to flirt with me
I refuse to lie and make excuses or bring up my boyfriend but I want my disinterest to be a good enough reason for not continuing to talk to me. But sometimes I say no and I have to try and hide my sheer terror because I don't know how he'll react.

  31. When you're walking home and a guy is walking kind of close and you cross the street and then he follows!?! Like maybe you live on this side of the street or maybe these are my last 5 minutes.

  32. Working in an office with a majority of men in it.
I was called into my bosses' office to say I was a 'distraction' at work. I was told I needed to keep to myself, dress more business professional and not interact as much with the rest of the office because they would become unproductive. Apparently my friendliness in a brand new workplace was mistaken by all as flirting. 😑

  37. being in any situation where it could be my word against a male's
it is very rare to be taken seriously and felt heard, we're dismissed as dramatic or overly emotional on issues that are frequently quite straightforward or objectively inappropriate (extreme example: Cosby vs 55 women?)
