My favorite English words in India.
  1. Readymade. The default back home, but certainly not here, where my grandmother commissions purchases (a nose stud, nightgowns) daily.
  2. Compulsory. Mahati pointed this out to me; the word that salesmen use when you don't like what they're offering, and they're trying to convince you that it's all the rage. "Madam, sleeves like this are compulsory!"
  3. Madam. See above. Said so beautifully.
  4. 'allo. Not "hello" or "hi". Take the "h" and add an accent for a more casual greeting.
