10 Albums I'll Listen to for the Rest of My Life

Put these albums on an endless loop and I'll be okay.
  1. 1.
    Crosby, Stills, & Nash - Crosby, Stills, & Nash(1969)
Some of the best vocal harmonies ever recorded. Songwriting of bard-like proportions. CSN put the super in supergroup. https://open.spotify.com/album/6vUWpE8qciYHOhf7mgaGny
  2. 2.
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill(1998)
Hard to think that this came out nearly two decades ago; it still sounds as fresh as ever. Lauryn could riff as well as she could rap and write. This album is about life, love, childhood, parenthood, the African Diaspora...reggae, soul, hip hop, and doo-wop all have a presence here and it never feels disjointed. https://open.spotify.com/album/2Uc0HAF0Cj0LAgyzYZX5e3
  3. 3.
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black(2007)
This album runs the gamut of human emotion and behavior. Humor, anger, regret, sorrow, flirtatiousness, reflection. Sometimes , I try to multitask while listening to this album( read, cook, clean, text) , but Amy's voice is so raw that it deserves your full attention for 35 minutes. Anything less is just disrespectful. https://open.spotify.com/album/6NykKu6IjzO1r7UFANX8kh
  4. 4.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out(1959)
Anytime I've had a strict deadline on a paper or work project , I put this album on and power through. The laid back horns, the hyped up piano, the frenetic Middle Eastern percussion is a mood booster from start to finish. https://open.spotify.com/album/2FpXNwmewH9F2bytZMevuS
  5. 5.
    John Mayer - Continuum (2006)
This guy really knows how to play guitar. Like, REALLY WELL. This album has everything - torch songs, slow burners, political anthems, existential questions galore. Also, I've found this album to be a consensus-builder amongst broody dudes in the their twenties( myself included).https://open.spotify.com/album/1Xsprdt1q9rOzTic7b9zYM
  6. 6.
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (2010)
I'm not ashamed. This is a perfect pop album, and I dare you to disagree. https://open.spotify.com/album/2eQMC9nJE3f3hCNKlYYHL1
  7. 7.
Kanye West - Late Registration (2005)
This album solidified my love and respect for Kanye as an artist - the braggadocio , the caring son, the effervescent friend, the activist speaking truth to power. I love this album and always will. https://open.spotify.com/album/5ll74bqtkcXlKE7wwkMq4g
  8. 8.
Phil Collins - Face Value (1981)
Air drums. Soulful synths. Heartwarming piano melodies. Phil is the 🐐, no questions about that.https://open.spotify.com/album/0z6C9U8FscvTVyFXo4Zza3
  9. 9.
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live! (1975)
What I would give to be a young man in NY to see this in person at The Lyceum. I love everything about this album, even the reverb on " No Woman, No Cry".https://open.spotify.com/album/5mvQHYARofQRsOE2cqBzik
  10. 10.
Bee Gees - Saturday Night Fever(1978)
Yes, I like disco. And if you say you don't, you're either lying or you've never heard this album. https://open.spotify.com/album/0taUwU7qjtc9lvwmd7FKac
