CURRENT CLASSROOM DEBATE: FOOTBALL VS WATER POLO

  1. Started with a freshman boy saying "does water polo even have stands? Who wants to go watch that?"
  2. Me: "have you ever actually watched a water polo game?!"
  3. Boy: "obviously you don't know how much of the Olympics I watched"
  4. Me: "it's totally different in person"
  5. Then a lot of the class jumped in. And it got interesting and nearly a little heated.
  6. WHICH IS TOUGHER?
  7. WATER POLO COULD NEVER SURVIVE A FOOTBALL PRACTICE AND VICE VERSA
  8. WHICH PLAYERS ARE STRONGER?
  9. IF IT WASN'T FOR FOOTBALL WATER POLO COULDN'T HAPPEN BECAUSE IT BRINGS IN ALL THE MONEY
(Where I reminded the freshman boy that simply due to the size of venue and seats available that is not a fair argument)
  10. GOALIE IS THE EASIEST EVER. I COULD DO THAT.
(This is where everyone schooled the kid on the fact that you're treading water and your feet never touch the bottom of the pool)
  11. WATER POLO IS CONSTANT AND FOOTBALL YOU SWITCH AND GET TO REST
  12. ---overall, good discussion. Wanna hear y'all's opinions and thoughts. I think a more apt comparison would be water polo and hockey but it's still interesting to think about. Totally different but both totally bad-ass.
  13. In water polo you're constantly trying not to get drowned because theres diiiiirty thangz happening while playing defense. There's more visibility in football, so it's easier to catch any foul play.

  14. Energy exertion comes into play as well. Water resistance and physical forceful contact are to be considered when traversing the game. I would say water polo requires more energy than football.

  15. Water Polo is by far harder.
No rest. Swimmers are in far better physical shape. Tougher. It's a battle underwater. No hard shell helmets or padding. (The head gear they wear is to keep ears from being torn off.) No rest as you play offense and defense. Football is 5 seconds of activity followed by 60 seconds of committee meetings. Did I mention there's no rest in water polo?

  16. Water Polo is so much more difficult! You're basically swimming nonstop the whole time while someone tries to drown you.
