I just moved to New York and realized that the subway gives me anxiety... it's an essential part of the routine, so I'm trying to learn ways to not freak out.
  1. find a seat
    sometimes the wobbly standing makes it worse
  2. headphones
    podcasts are better than music for me in most subway riding instances. sometimes i just put the headphones in, playing nothing wearing them like a safety blanket; sometimes elton john.
  3. make lists
  4. reading material
    I need to be more proactive about bringing a book or magazine around with me, to encourage me to mind my own business.
