This week in social media platform changes

  1. Facebook is testing a change to the trending topics to show the number of people talking about each topic (without a short description written by Facebook employees).
  2. Next week, Reddit will debut a new ad offering called Promoted User Posts, where you can sponsor user-generated posts. Reddit would work on behalf of the sponsor to contact the original poster to seek permission for this action.
  3. You can now restrict your Facebook Live broadcasts by audiences (filter by location, time zone, age and gender). Note, this is for Live broadcasts via the FB Live API only.
  4. Facebook tests new video features on its Android app, including a dedicated video tab with a search engine (which hints of a potential for ad targeting, both keyword based and interest based) and subscription-based video channels.
