EDIT: for those asking/talking about contacting congress, HuffPo posted this great resource with links to find your reps & senators, as well as a form letter to copy and paste: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/8708154.html
  1. Rather, I'm devastated.
  2. I live an intensely sheltered life.
  3. I surround myself with people who love each other and accept each other.
I guess you could say all my friends are a bunch of woke baes.
  4. We all know when and how to stay in our lanes. We all know that every person in our lives is fully deserving of the utmost love and respect.
  5. I am so constantly surrounded by this that I forget that there are still people all over the country who are just the opposite.
  6. There are so many hateful people. I forget about them because I have chosen to ignore them for my own personal happiness.
  7. But my happiness is not the most important thing. I cannot be happy if the people I love are not happy.
  8. According to the last count I saw online, 50 people I love were murdered early this morning. 50 more people I love were injured.
Because of one person I hate. One person hurt all those people who I love, even though I have never met them.
  9. I've heard that the Orlando nightclub shooting is the largest mass shooting to date. I don't know if that's true. It doesn't really matter. It sucks that this is a thing we keep track of. It sucks that there are so many mass shootings that we have statistics on them.
  10. For Christmas, I set up a $10 monthly donation to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in my dad's name. When Hillary Clinton made her inaccurate remarks about Nancy Reagan and the AIDS epidemic, I upped my monthly donation to $12. Today I upped the donation to $25. I say this not to get praise or acknowledgement. I say it to encourage.
I encourage you to put good into the world. I am a recent college graduate. I am so poor. But I can eat out one or two fewer times a month in order to help save someone's life. At least 50 lives were lost today because of senseless homophobia. I hope my money helped to save at least one life that otherwise would have been lost. When bad things happen, more good things need to happen. Put good into the world. Put so much good into the world in whatever way you can.
  11. I am not in Florida, so I cannot donate blood to the victims who need it right now. If you are in Florida, donate blood if you are able to. They need it.
Especially O neg and pos, and AB plasma.
  12. Other ways you can help:
  13. There has been a fund set up to support the victims. https://gofundme.com/PulseVictimsFund
  14. Attend a vigil.
They will be everywhere, but definitely in Orlando. If you don't believe in prayer, believe in energy or vibes or thoughts. Go to a vigil to send up positive energy. Just be there to support, to show that no one is alone in this.
  15. If you are a counselor, be available to provide counseling. Especially if you are in Orlando.
If you are in need of counseling, you can call 1-407-228-1446
  16. Donate to orlandohealthfoundation.com
This is where a lot of victims were sent. The hospital was put on lockdown for security reasons and they can use all the help they can get.
  17. Send messages of support to Pulse. Give good vibes. Positive words can have such an impact.
    Twitter: @pulseorlando FB: Facebook.com/pulseorlando.
  18. Donate to LGBT organizations. This was an attack on LGBT people. They need your support now.
  19. Donate to thecenterorlando.org
Promote and empower the GLBT Community and its allies through information, education, advocacy and support.
  20. Donate to zebrayouth.org
Foster hope, dignity and self-respect in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and all youth (LGBT+) and to provide them an opportunity to grow up in a safe, healthy and supportive environment.
  21. Donate to orlandoyouthalliance.org
Provides a safe space for LGBT youth in Orlando
  22. Those are just a few. There is no way to make what happened in Orlando go away. It happened. It sucks. But put good into the world. Show the world that you won't back down. Give in whatever way you can to keep moving forward.
  23. Love each other.
