My 5 Favorite Murders

I just recently added My Favorite Murders to my true crime podcast rotation.* The podcast has inspired this list of my personal favorite murders. What are yours? *my coworkers hate when I pop off my headphones excitedly to tell them gruesome details, but sorry, not sorry. Gotta fill 8 hour days in a lab somehow.
  1. Shannon Leigh Kos, Zombieland murder
Along the northern Ohio/Pennsylvania border there was a small rural community all the bad Youngstown teens (IT ME) would go to, Robins Crossings, but we called it Zombieland. There we'd get high & rehash urban legends, the Virgin Mary Statue, the Green Flame, Puerto Rican Bridge, the Blood House, & the Green Man (he wasnt a legend, but he had died long before my generation). In October 2000 a crime truely sinister occurred. http://old.post-gazette.com/regionstate/20001031zombie1.asp
  2. The Toy Box Killer
Jesus fucking Christ. I think the couples that hunt their victims together are the most terrifying. There is a false sense of safety in the company of another woman. David Parker Ray & Cindy Hendy kidnapped, tortured, raped, and killed women in a $100,000 custom built torture trailer. When the victims first woke, chained naked to a wall, bag over her head, she would be forced to listen to a 20 min tape of her fate. Here's side 1: https://youtu.be/gV8EPMeu1X8
  3. H.H. Holmes
Classic. I wish the murder mansion still stood. On an episode of Sword & Scale a couple of authors discussed how they believe H.H. Holmes was also Jack the Ripper. It's plausible, I guess. Listen here: http://swordandscale.com/sword-and-scale-episode-30/
  4. Delphine LaLaurie
Another classic. You may know the name from AHS: Coven. The stories behind Madame LaLaurie was even darker than Coven portrayed, and it's hard to separate folklore from fact. What is known that that LaLaurie kept her slaves chained to the stove to keep them from running while she was entertaining her socialite friends, & conditions where so bad those slaves were willing to die to bring her cruelty to light. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/a-torture-chamber-is-uncovered-by-arson
  5. Mary Bell
An 11 year old girl who was the product of her environment. Her mother, a protitute, pimps out the young girl as early as 4 years old. Mary killed two young boys, aged 4 and 3. She was released from prison at age 23. http://firsttoknow.com/meet-mary-bell-the-10-year-old-prostitute-killer-who-got-a-second-chance-at-life/
  6. Honorable Mention: every goddamn hitchhiker killer.
Edmund Kemper, Donald Henry Gaskins, William Bonin, Robert Ben Rhoades, Wayne Adam Ford, Santa Rosa hitchhiker murders, Etcetera etcetera etcetera
